A new synthetic route to 1H-phosphirenes is reported. In the reaction of dichlorophosphanes 1a,b with the carbenoid 2tBuMe2Si(H)C(Cl)Li the bis(methylene)phosphoranes RP[C(H)SitBuMe2]23a,b are obtained, which rearrange at low temperatures to yield the phosphiranes 4a,b. In the subsequent decomposition of 4a,b the extrusion of H2 leads to the formation of the phosphirenes 5a,b.
