A method of producing a metal salt of 2,4-oxazolidinedione of the general formula (III) wherein a 2-hydroxycarboxylate of the general formula (I), urea and a metal alkoxide of the formula (II) are reacted in an aromatic hydrocarbon; or a 2-hydroxycarboxylate of the general formula (I) and a metal alkoxide of the formula (II) are added to urea, and, then, they are reacted is provided:
