    2,5-di(p-methoxyanilino)terephthalic acid crystal types I and II are made by controlling the pH during the recovery of the oxidized product of the condensation of dimethylsuccinyl succinate with p-methoxyaniline. The resulting 2,5-di(p-methoxyanilino)-terephthalic acid can be converted into 2,9-dimethoxyquinacridone or a solid solution thereof having controlled characteristics.

    A process for the preparation of a quinacridone of the formula: wherein A and B each independently represent a substituent selected from H, F, Cl, C1-C3alkyl and C1-C3alkoxy, including the steps of: (A) heating a reaction mixture containing (a) at least one unsubstituted and/or substituted 2,5-diarylamino-6,13-dihydroterephthalic acid and (b) about 3 to about 10 parts by weight of polyphosphoric acid per part of component (a) to a temperature of above about 125°C to form a quinacridone melt; (B) treating the quinacridone melt resulting from (A) with about 1% to about 30% by weight, based on the weight of component (a), of concentrated sulfuric acid, to form a reaction mixture; (C) drowning the reaction mixture of (B) in a liquid in which the quinacridone is substantially insoluble; and (D) recovering the resulting quinacridone pigment.

    An object to be achieved by the present invention is to provide a quinacridone pigment having hue that is yellowish and clear and having excellent storage stability, wherein the quinacridone pigment can be advantageously used in an ink-jet ink and the like. Provided is a quinacridone solid solution pigment comprising at least C. I. Pigment Violet 19 and C. I. Pigment Red 122, wherein the ratio of a diffraction peak intensity at a diffraction angle 2θ of 14.8 ± 0.2° to a diffraction peak intensity at a diffraction angle 2θ of 11.9 ± 0.2° is 1.20 or less, as measured by X-ray diffractometry with respect to the quinacridone solid solution pigment.

    A medium is selective, both initial viscosity and temporal viscosity are high particularly as an NC flexographic ink depending on a system of a printing ink or paint, and an effect has not been sufficient. Provided are a quinacridone pigment composition which is suitable for printing inks, paints, and the like and which is excellent in fluidity (initial viscosity, temporal viscosity) and an ink composition containing the same. It has been found that pigment more improved in fluidity (initial viscosity, temporal viscosity) than conventional techniques is obtained by using a specific quinacridone pigment composition for quinacridone pigments, leading to the completion of the present invention.
