The FCS radical has been produced using a pulsed-jet DC discharge technique with several precursor molecules and characterized by IR absorption spectroscopy in an argon matrix. The spectra were analyzed and the following vibrational assignments, confirmed by isotopic studies, and by normal coordinate analysis were determined: ν1 = 1297.9 cm−1, 2ν2 = 910.3 cm−1 in Fermi resonance with ν3 = 917.9 cm−1

The linear carbon-sulfur cluster C 7 S has been generated by pulsed laser evaporation of a carbon/sulfur mixture, deposited in an argon matrix at 12 K, and studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Abstract The high-resolution infrared spectrum of the ν 3 bandsystem of carbon subsulfide, SCCCS, was measured around 2100 cm −1 using a Fouriertransform interferometer and a tunable diodelaser spectrometer.
