    A procedure for one-pot preparation of beta-trimethylsilyloxy thioesters from epoxides, thioacids, and hexamethyl disilazane (HMDS) in the presence of silica gel under solvent-free condition was developed. The desired silylated products were isolated in good to excellent yields after silica-gel column chromatography.Supplemental materials are available for this article. The invention also relates to a method of separating a substance from a fluid, comprising the step of placing the fluid in contact with an inventive device, thereby adsorbing or absorbing the substance to the composite material contained therein.

    Latent thiol monomers and their use in the synthesis of polymers and graft copolymers are described. The latent thiol monomers comprise at least one polymerizable functional group and at least one protected thiol group. The polymers or copolymers may be used in adhesive, caulk, or mastic compositions. The copolymer may also be used as a compatiblizer for physical blends of at least two polymers.
