The complex cis-[PtCl2Me2S(O)CHCOPh}(SEt2)] releases diethyl sulphide in dimethyl sulphoxide and is transformed into the complex [PtCl2Me2S(O)CHCOPh}] which is chelated through the carbanion carbon and the sulphonium oxygen of the ylide. The thermal properties of the complexes have been examined by thermal gravimetric analysis. and the nature of the bonding is discussed.
