The invention relates to a class of amino-β-alkyl styrenes and process for producing such styrenes. More particularly, the aminoalkyl styrenes are represented by the formula:
wherein R is H or C1-5 alkyl; R₁ is H or C₁, methyl; R₂ is C1-4 alkyl; or R₁ and R₂ are combined as a 5 carbon member ring, x is 1 or 2, and y is 1 or 2 when R is H.The above described amino styrenes have been found to be well suited in forming polyurethane/urea elastomer systems and for providing pendant unsaturation for post curing and polymerization with other monomers.

N-Phenylsulfonimidoyl chloride reacts with trimethylsilylethene in the presence of aluminum chloride to give two product benzothiazines, one of which has been desilylated. The silylated benzothiazine can be deprotonated and alkylated, sometimes with very high diastereocontrol. Upon treatment with fluoride, these silylated benzothiazines undergo desilylation with concomitant cleavage of the carbon-sulfur
