  The invention concerns novel fused ring indole derivatives of the formula ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein n represents 1 or 2 and R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, halogen, amino or mono- or di-(lower)alkylamino. The compounds are useful as anti-depressant agents.
