The present application provides processes and intermediates useful in the production of β- aminocarbonyl- or β-aminothiocarbonyl-containing compounds. Provided herein is a process for synthesizing β-aminocarbonyl- or β-aminothiocarbonyl-containing compounds from an alkene and a hydrazone. Also provided herein is a process for synthesizing β-aminocarbonyl- or β-aminothiocarbonyl-containing compounds from an alkene and a hydrazine.
