  Vinylthiols were synthesized by the x-ray-initiated addition of hydrogen sulfide to mono- and disubstituted acetylenes at room temperature. Divinyl sulfides, vicinal dithiols, and low polymers of the vinylthiols are also obtained as reaction products. The vinylthiols are colorless, distillate liquids. Their stability varies with the acetylene. The most stable ones are derived from hexafluoro-2butyne
