A novel low melting highly hydrolytically stable phthalonitrile monomer containing Ar-Si-O-Si-Ar bonds with T-g = 4 degrees C exhibits good rheological properties. Its cured resin possesses high heat deflection temperature (T-hd = 471 degrees C) and demonstrates high thermal and thermooxidative stabilities (T-5% = 503 degrees C, TOS5% = 495 degrees C, = 76%) that are typical of phthalonitrile matrices.

A palladium-catalyzed arylation of hydrosiloxanes was developed for the synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetricalsiloxanes. Reactive functional moieties such as hydroxy or cyano groups were able to tolerate the reaction conditions and several novel unsymmetricalsiloxanes were synthesized in moderate to high yield.
