γ-Allyl Phosphinoyl Phenyl Sulfone (GAPPS): A Conjunctive Reagent for the Synthesis of EE, EZ, and ET 1,3-Dienes

A three-operation conjunctive strategy is available for the synthesis of EE, EZ, and ET dienes. This protocol employs a sequential Wadsworth-Emmons reaction using a GAPPS reagent followed by alkylation of an allylic sulfone anion, and finally ligand-mediated, palladium-catalyzed desulfonylation.

Diversity-oriented organic synthesis is an important approach for combinatorial chemistry and drug discovery. An example of this approach is selective elimination of 2,3-dibromo-2-methylpropyl phenyl sulfone 5 to potentially useful vinyl sulfones 6 E/Z and vinyl bromides 7 E/Z , which is achieved by choosing reaction conditions.
Isomerisation of Vinyl Sulfones for the Stereoselective Synthesis of Vinyl Azides
The efficient isomerisation of a range of γ‐azido substituted vinyl sulfones is reported. The corresponding vinyl azides are typically obtained with high levels of Z‐stereochemistry. An exception is when R is an α‐methyl substituent is present when the E‐vinyl azide was preferred.
