A CuI‐catalyzed reductive coupling of ketone‐derived N‐tosylhydrazones with amides is presented. Under the optimized conditions, an array of N‐tosylhydrazones derived from aryl–alkyl and diaryl ketones could couple effectively with a wide variety of (hetero)aryl as well as aliphatic amides to afford the N‐alkylated amides in high yields. An efficient process was developed to synthesis diarylmethylamines protected by a readily removable acyl group using a palladium-catalyzed arylation of N-acyl-N,O-acetals with arylboronic reagents. The attractive features of this protocol are: the ease of preparing substrate and the mild reaction condition under an air atmosphere. Moderate enantioselectivity was observed in preliminary screening studies of chiral ligands. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
