systems can readily be tuned. Push–pull 5-thiazolylazo-5′-alkoxy-2,2′-bithiophenes exhibit the most promising redox and the solvatochromic properties and second-ordernonlinearoptical response. The redox and the opticalproperties also show notable variations for the different heterocyclic spacers and were also sensitive to the electronic acceptor strength of the (benzo)thiazolyldiazene moieties.

Metallation of the ynamine CH3CCNEt2 or the allenicamines H2CCCHNR2 (R = CH3 or C2H5) with Schlosser's reagent BuLi · t-BuOK, followed by reaction with a thiocarbonyl compound XCSSCH3 (X = Me2N, Et2N, CH3S, t-Bu, O-t-Bu, Ph or 2-thienyl) and then addition of water, gives 2,5-disubstituted thiophenes (with Me2N or Et2N and X as substituents) in good yields.
