The present invention relates to a process for preparing vinyl carboxylates, wherein a carboxylic acid is reacted with an alkyne compound in the presence of a catalyst which is selected from carbonyl complexes, halides and oxides of rhenium, of manganese, of tungsten, of molybdenum, of chromium and of iron and rhenium metal at a temperature of ≦300° C.
The process gives the desired vinyl esters with high yield.
The vinyl benzoate derivatives were successfully synthesized by the transvinylation reactions that vinyl group transferred from vinylacetate to aromatic carboxylic acids with the recoverable catalyst RhCl3·3H2O. This catalyst features air stable and tolerance of water, good reusable ability, meanwhile, shows high selectivity for aromatic carboxylic acid in the presence of phenolic hydroxyl. With this
Production of vinyl halide-polyolefin graft copolymers by a liquid phase bulk polymerization process is carried out in the presence of a diluent. Suitable diluents preferably have vaporization pressure characteristics, within 6.89 x 102 kPa, and similar liquid state viscosity, as-vinyl-halide monomer. The diluents are soluble in vinyl halide monomer under the reaction conditions and are inert to the polymerization mass. The diluents are straight or branched chain or cyclic saturated hydrocarbons having from 3 to 15 carbon atoms. Particularly useful diluents are n-propane, n-butane, isobutane or mixtures thereof. The diluents are utilized in amounts from 0.2 to less than 50.0 percent based upon the total weight of the reaction charge. The polymers thus produced can be used to make moulded articles.

Graft polymers are prepared by reacting an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer with a polymer of an olefin of 2 to about 8 carbon atoms in a process wherein the olefin polymer is substantially insoluble in the monomer but is capable of absorbing the monomer. In a preferred aspect, a vinyl halide polyolefin graft polymer is produced by reacting a solid polyolefin particle with a vinyl halide monomer in which the polyolefin is substantially insoluble, but is capable of absorbing the monomer. The solid particles can be contacted with the monomer in one step or in stages. When the stage-wise reaction is continued until the proportion of polyolefin in the polymer product is about 2 to about 20 weight percent, the resulting product can be formed to a transparent or translucent article. When a small proportion of solid polyolefin is employed in the polymerization process, both a graft polymer and a polymer of the unsaturated monomer are simultaneously produced in the same reactor and can be readily mechanically separated into the individual products.
