  isowithametelin, two novel hexacyclic withanolides isolated from the leaves of Datura metel, have been established as 1 and 2 respectively, on the basis of detailed spectral and chemical evidences. The facile transformation of withametelin to a ring A aromatic withanolide and some other interesting chemical transformations are described.
