The reaction of various fluorene compounds C(13)H(7)R(1)R(2)R(3) (R(1), R(2) = H, Me, Et, (t)Bu; R(3) = H, cyclohexyl, Me(3)Si) with butyllithium followed by treatment with (C(5)Me(5))MCl(3) (M-Zr, Hf) leads to unbridged metallocene dichloride complexes of the type (C(5)Me(5))(C(13)H(6)R(1)R(2)R(3))MCl(2) (1-11). In combination with methylaluminoxane (MAO), complexes 1-11 show catalytic activity in homogeneous olefin polymerization. The crystal structures of (C(5)Me(5))(2,7-Me(2)-C13H7)MCl(2) (M = Zr (3), Hf (4)) have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
