A novel synthetic method for the preparation of various alkyl ethers is described. The reaction between alkyl halides and sodium hydride in the presence of N,N-dimethylformamide afforded the corresponding symmetrical and unsymmetrical ethers in high yields. A reaction mechanism for etherification is also proposed.
Described is a preferred UV curable coating composition comprising (exclusive of any solvent present): (a) about 5% to 90% by weight of an acrylated aliphatic urethane having a molecular weight of about 500 to 2000 and formed by the reaction of a multifunctional acrylate with a molecular weight of about 90 to 500 and containing at least three polymerizable unsaturated groups per molecule, with an aliphatic urethane based on a polymer of allyl carbomonocycle diisocyanate with alkanepolyol polyacrylates; (b) about 5% to 30% by weight of a multifunctional acrylate having a molecular weight of about 170 to 1000 and containing at least two polymerizable unsaturated groups per molecule; and (c) a photopolymerization initiator and/or sensitizer. Also described are preferred processes and coated articles involving the preferred coating compositions.
An ultraviolet curable blend composition comprising (exclusive of any solvent present): (a) about 35% to about 65% by weight of a first acrylated aliphatic urethane having a molecular weight of between about 500 and 2000 and formed by the reaction of (i) a first multifunctional acrylate with a molecular weight of between about 190 and 500 and containing at least three polymerizable unsaturated groups per molecule, with (ii) an aliphatic urethane based on a polymer of alkyl carbomonocycle diisocyanate with alkanepolyol polyacrylates; (b) about 5% to about 25% by weight of a second acrylated aliphatic urethane having a molecular weight of about 1200 to about 2600 and formed by the reaction of a second multifunctional acrylate with a molecular weight of about 110 to about 500 with an aliphatic urethane based on a polyether and having a molecular weight of about 800 to about 2200; (c) about 10% to about 55% by weight of a third multifunctional acrylate having a molecular weight of between about 170 and about 1000 and containing at least two polymerizable unsaturated groups per molecule; and (d) a photopolymerization initiator and/or sensitizer. Also described are preferred processes and coated articles involving preferred compositions.
The present invention is directed to curable acrylate coating compositions and coated articles resulting therefrom. The curable acrylate coating composition comprises at least two polyfunctional acrylate derivatives, at least one photoinitiator and at least one nanoscale filler.

The process of the invention is provided to achieve uniform doping of an activator metal into phosphor particles and to improve efficiency of utlization of a metal element to be used in the production of a Group II metal sulfide phosphor and a precursor thereof. Specifically, the object of the invention is achieved by a process for producing a Group II metal sulfide phosphor precursor, comprising adding to an organic solvent an aqueous solution containing at least one of a Group II element compound, a sulfurizing agent, and a compound containing any of copper, silver, manganese, gold, and rare-earth elements to obtain a reaction mixture, heating the reaction mixture to produce an azeotrope of the water and the organic solvent, and removing the water from the reaction mixture to produce a desired Group II metal sulfide in the reaction mixture, wherein the removal of the water from the reaction mixture is carried out by recovering only the water condensed from a vapor produced by the azeotropic distillation.
