Described is a polyimide prepared from a diamine containing a spiro or cardo group in a molecule structure, wherein the dimensional stability of the polyimide can be improved at a high temperature, and thus the polyimide can provide a polyimide film useful for a flexible substrate.

Disclosed is a novel diamine having a structure of comprising an intramolecular imide group, and further comprising aromatic cyclic groups linked by an ester group to both sides of the imide group. When the novel diamine is used as a polymerizable component for preparing a polyimide, a polyimide film having remarkably improved mechanical and thermal properties while maintaining optical properties can be provided.

A waveguide device comprising at least a waveguiding layer, a cladding layer and, optionally, an adhesion-enhancing layer is disclosed. By using specific fluorinated polyimides as materials for each of the layers of the waveguide device, the process for producing the waveguide device is simplified, the production cost is reduced, and the flexibility is imparted to the waveguide device, which are not achieved in a quartz-type waveguide. Also, a single mode, a low loss at 1.3 micron band and a high moisture-resistance which are not achieved by conventional plastic-type waveguide are possible.
The present invention relates to a modified polyimide including a terminal group represented by Formula 1:
wherein D is a heat curable or photocurable functional group, R is a divalent or higher polyvalent organic group, and n is an integer of 1 or greater. The modified polyimide undergoes less reduction in transmittance and is protected from discoloration when cured. Due to these advantages, the modified polyimide can provide a highly transparent colorless polyimide film. Particularly, the modified polyimide is suitable for use in display substrates, interlayer insulating films of semiconductor devices, passivation films, buffer coat films, insulating films for multilayer printed circuit boards, insulating films of OLEDs, and protective films of thin film transistors of liquid crystal display devices. The present invention also relates to a curable composition including the modified polyimide.

An adhesive agent comprising a condensation resin having a structural unit obtained by polycondensing a polymerizable monomer containing a monomer (A) having 2 or more carboxyl groups and a monomer (B) having 2 or more amino groups, and meeting at least one of the following (1) and (2):
(1) at least one selected from the group consisting of the monomer (A), an anhydride of the monomer (A), and the monomer (B) is liquid at 25° C.; and
(2) the condensation resin has a polyoxyalkanediyl group.
