By use of salt elimination, the transition-metal-substituted cyclopentasilanes Me9Si5-Co(CO)3PPh3. Me9Si5-Fe(CO)2Cp, Me9Si5-SiMe2Co(CO)3PPh3 and Me9Si5-SiMe2Fe(CO)2Cp were prepared and characterized.

New permethylated polycyclic silanes, Nonamethylcyclopentasilanylundecamethylcyclohexasilane, 1,4-Bis(nonamethylcyclopentasilanyl)decamethylcyclohexasilane and Bis(nonamethylcyclopentasilanyl)dimethylsilane, two of them containing both, five- and six-membered rings, were synthesized for the first time and characterized by spectroscopic methods.Comparison of the longest UV-absorption maxima with literature data of compounds containing exclusively either five- or six-membered rings, shows that the influence of ringsize on UV-absorptions, as known in monocyclic silanes, is also present in polycyclic systems.

By means of the new possibility to split a trimethylsilyl group from the methylated cyclopentasilane by action of EtONa, a new, simple, and effective pathway to valuable molecules for other syntheses was found.
