A series of amides of the type RCONR′[CH2Si(CH3)2Cl] were prepared by the reaction of chloromethyldimethylchlorosilane with a series of N-alkyl, N-aryl, and trimethylsilyl amides. The structure of the compound obtained from reaction with bis(trimethylsilyl)acetamide was previously determined by x-ray analysis and is used to rationalize the NMR and IR spectra of its 14N and 15SN isotopomers.
