Diethylzinc-mediated radical addition to CN bonds was investigated in the presence of phenylorganotellurium compounds as radical precursors. As group transfer agents, secondary alkyl phenyl tellurides were shown to be about twice as reactive as the corresponding alkyl iodides towards ethyl radical.
