Trialkylboranes undergo fast 1,4-addition to crotonaldimine in the presence of catalytic amounts of air to give, after methanolysis, the corresponding saturated aldimines in good yields. This reaction is considered to proceed through a radical process.

The pale yellow mononuclear ruthenium(II) complex Ru(CO)2[CH3CC(H)C(H)NiPr]2 (1a) has been obtained (i) in ca. 25% yield by heating a solution of Ru3(CO)12 in CH3C(H)C(H)C(H)NiPr at 110°C for 8 h, and (ii) in ca. 80% yield from the reaction of Ru2(CO)6[CH2CCC(H)C(H)NiPr] (2a) with CH3C(H)C(H)C(H)NiPr in heptane for 16 h at 110°C.
