  (EN) The invention comprises a method and an apparatus to indicate the presence of volatile hydrocarbons or pollutants in water and other solutions for medical use alone or in connection with an eliminator of volatile hydrocarbons, through distillation. Freeze dried cellls or cell aggregates which have been cultured by maintaining their activity to react to the presence of volatile halocarbons in solutions of microgram per litre concentrations on an inert base material either in special pockets or on strips or in bags covered by a net-like shield which can be penetrated by volatile halocarbons. In connection with application of the indicator in an eliminator of volatile hydrocarbons in connection with distillation the indicator is used in a pocket (6) with a closing mechanism (7) which makes sampling easier and the indicator comes in contact with the medium to be studied.(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil utilisés pour indiquer la présence d'hydrocarbures ou de polluants volatiles dans l'eau et dans d'autres solutions à usage médical, seuls ou conjointement avec un éliminateur d'hydrocarbures volatiles, par distillation. On a mis en culture des cellules ou des aggrégats de cellules lyophilisées de manière qu'elles maintiennent leur activité pour réagir à la présence d'halocarbones volatiles dans des solutions dont les concentrations sont de l'ordre du microgramme par litre, sur une matière de base inerte, soit dans des poches spéciales soit sur des bandes ou dans des sachets recouverts d'une protection en forme de filet perméable aux halocarbones volatiles. En ce qui concerne l'application de l'indicateur dans un éliminateur d'hydrocarbures volatiles en liaison avec la distillation, on utilise l'indicateur dans une poche (6) dotée d'un mécanisme de fermeture (7) facilitant l'échantillonage, l'indicateur venant au contact du milieu à étudier.
