  A benzylsulfinyl pyridine-N-oxide of the formula: wherein X is a chlorine atom or a bromine atom, and Y and Z are each independently a chlorine atom or a fluorine atom, is useful as the active ingredient of a herbicide and may be prepared by oxidizing the corresponding benzylthiopyridine-N-oxide.
