    Exploiting the enantioselectivity of Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases via boron oxidation

    The enantioselective carbon-boron bond oxidation of several chiral boron-containing compounds by Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases was evaluated. PAMO and M446G PAMO conveniently oxidized 1-phenylethyl boronate into the corresponding 1-(phenyl)ethanol (ee = 82-91%). Cyclopropyl boronic esters were also oxidized but with no enantioselectivity. beta-Boryl carboxylic esters were not oxidized by any BVMOs. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    The present invention relates to new nitrogen-containing organophosphorus compounds having aryloxy or aryl substitutents bonded to phosphorus in ester or phosphine oxide structures. ##EQU1## R is alkyl, bromoalkyl, chloroalkyl or aryl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R' is R or OR with the proviso that at least one R' is aryl or aryloxy, R" is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or haloaryl of 1 to 15 carbon atoms, or no more than one carboethoxymethyl group, and where the halogen on the aryl group is bromine, chlorine or fluorine, R'" is alkyl, alkenyl or aryl groups of 1 to 15 carbon atoms and substituted aryl forms where the substituent is fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, cyano, hydroxyl, alkyloxy or mixtures of such substituents, and Z is CO, CS or SO.sub.2. The phosphorus compounds have utility as fire retardants and as biologically active materials.

    This invention relates to novel calcium phosphate-coated implantable medical devices and processes of making same. The calcium-phosphate coatings are designed to minimize the immune response to the implant (e.g. restenosis in stenting procedures) and can be used to store and release a medicinally active agent in a controlled manner. Such coatings can be applied to any implantable medical devices and are useful for a number of medical procedures including (but not limited to) balloon angioplasty in cardiovascular stenting, ureteral stenting and catheterisation. The calcium phosphate coatings can be applied to a substrate as one or more coatings by a sol-gel deposition process, an aerosol-gel deposition process, a biomimetic deposition process, a calcium phosphate cement deposition process, an electro-phoretic deposition process or an electrochemical deposition process. The coating can contain and elude a drug in an engineered manner.
