A high yield preparation of 1-amino-2-aza-1,3-butadienes derived from beta-amino esters from N-unsubstituted amidines and acetylenic esters is described. A thiophile-promoted one-potsynthesis of trisubstituted 1,3,5-triazines starting from isothiocyanates, N,N-diethylamidines, and carbamidines has been studied. The reaction proceeds through the formation of intermediary amidinothioureas, which react with carbamidines in the presence of mercury(II) chloride to generate the desired 1,3,5-triazines in good to moderate yields (40–70%).
The present invention provides unimolecular metal complexes having increased activity in the copolymerization of carbon dioxide and epoxides. Also provided are methods of using such metal complexes in the synthesis of polymers. According to one aspect, the present invention provides metal complexes comprising an activating species with co-catalytic activity tethered to a multidentate ligand that is coordinated to the active metal center of the complex.
