    A new method for the preparation of alkyl vinyl ethers has been developed. Thus, various types of alkyl vinyl ethers were synthesized by the reaction of alcohols with vinyl acetate under the influence of a catalytic amount of [Ir(cod)Cl]2 combined with Na2CO3 in good to excellent yields.

    A cured matter obtained by polymerizing and curing a polymerizable composition comprising a compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule is reduced in an odor by adding a perfume to the polymerizable composition comprising the compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule. A cloudiness of the lens is removed by raising a purity of sulfur to 98% or more. A reduction in a chlorine content of the sulfur compound described above to 0.1% by weight or less elevates an oxidation resistance and a light fastness of the high refractive index optical material and improves a color tone thereof. An optical product having a high refractive index and a high-degree transparency is provided by subjecting the composition in advance to deaerating treatment at 0 to 100° C. for one minute to 24 hours under a reduced pressure of 0.001 to 50 torr.

    The composition for optical materials of the present invention contains at least one compound represented by the following Formula 1: wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each independently C1-C10 hydrocarbyl or hydrogen; X1, X2 and X3 are each independently S, Se or Te; Y1, Y2 and Y3 are each independently -Sa-[(CH2)bS]cH, a is an integer from 0 to 2, b is an integer from 0 to 4, and c is an integer from 0 to 2, and a compound reactive to the compound of Formula 1. A resin produced by curing a composition containing the compound of Formula 1 by polymerization has a high refractive index, and suitable as various optical materials.

    A cured matter obtained by polymerizing and curing a polymerizable composition comprising a compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule is reduced in an odor by adding a perfume to the polymerizable composition comprising the compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule. A cloudiness of the lens is removed by raising a purity of sulfur to 98 % or more. A reduction in a chlorine content of the sulfur compound described above to 0.1 % by weight or less elevates an oxidation resistance and a light fastness of the high refractive index optical material and improves a color tone thereof. An optical product having a high refractive index and a high-degree transparency is provided by subjecting the composition in advance to deaerating treatment at 0 to 100°C for one minute to 24 hours under a reduced pressure of 0.001 to 50 torr.
