  Steroids 1, 2, 3 containing both hydroxy and ethynyl groups at C(17) are selectively transformed by reaction with carboxylic acids, catalysed by [Ru(µ-O2CH)(CO)2(PPh3)]2 complex, into β-oxopropyl esters 4, 5, 6 with retention of configuration.
