Disclosed are compounds of formulae: and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein the variables, R1,R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R11, R12, R13, R14, R15, R16, R17, n, and m are defined herein. These compounds are useful for treating Gram-negative bacteria infections. Also disclosed are methods of making these compounds.

A new type of TfOH-catalyzed tandem cyclopropane ring enlargement/CâC formation/etherification reaction between alkynylcyclopropanes and 1,3-diketones to cyclobutane-fused dihydrofurans is described. The reaction tolerates a range of aryl and alkyl substituents with moderate to good yields.

The ringexpansion of cyclopropane derivatives provides a powerful method to construct synthetically useful four-membered carbocycles. Herein, a new type of gold(I)-catalyzed ringexpansion of an unactivated alkynylcyclopropane/sulfonamide trapping strategy to (E)-2-alkylidenecyclobutanamines was described. The reaction tolerates a range of aryl and alkyl substituents with moderate to good yields.

A golden opportunity: A novel gold‐catalyzed oxidativering‐expansion of unactivated cyclopropylalkynes using Ph2SO has been developed (see scheme). For substrates bearing a donor group at the cyclopropane ring, preliminary results reveal a distinct cleavage of the cyclopropane unit; such a ringcleavage is further applicable to the synthesis of 2H‐pyrans. L=P(tBu)2(o‐biphenyl), Tf=triflate.

A heterogeneous gold(I)-catalyzed ringexpansion of unactivated alkynylcyclopropanes was achieved in 1,2-dichloroethane at 100 °C in the presence of sulfonamides by using a magnetic nanoparticle-supported phosphine gold(I) complex [Fe3O4@SiO2-P-AuOTf] as catalyst, yielding a variety of (E)-2-alkylidenecyclobutanamines in moderate to high yields.
