Abstract It is reported that a variety of O-alkyl S-alkyl(aryl) thiophosphoric(-nic) acid derivatives 4 can be readily chlorinated with phosphorus oxychloride giving S-alkyl(aryl) thiophosphoro(-no)chloridates 2 and O-alkyl phosphorodichloridates 3.

The O,S-dimethylphosphorochloridate reacts with 5′-O-monomethoxytritylthymidine in pyridine giving nucleoside-3′-thiolophosphodiester in high yields; in acetonitrile and in the presence of 1-methylimidazole, this reaction leads to the nucleoside-3′-phosphotriester without formation of diester . From the latter, the Tp and TpT have been prepared.
N'-(Methoxy(methylthio)phosphinyl)-N,N-dimethyl carbamimidothioic acid, ethyl ester is employed as an insecticide and particularly plant systemic insecticides for the control of sucking and boring-type insects which attack plants of economic importance.
