A facile procedure for CâC bond cleavage of cyclopentadiene rings is reported, and a series of water-soluble pyrylium tetrachloroferrates (PyâFes) were synthesized. Different photoluminescence properties of PyâFes were simply tuned by changing the types and positions of substituent groups.
