An (amido–ethynyl)helicene bidomain compound and an (amido–ethynyl–amido)helicene tridomain compound were synthesized. The multidomain compounds were designed on the basis of previous findings that amido and ethynyl oligomers form dimeric aggregates with properties orthogonal to each other.
