N‐Benzyl‐4‐piperidon 1 wird durch Cer(IV) sulfat‐Oxidation zur 5‐Oxo‐ 1 H‐3,4,5,6‐tetrahydro‐2,6‐methano‐2‐benzazocin 2 cyclisiert. 2 wird mit Natriumborhydrid und Lithiumaluminiumhydrid in verschiedenen Lösungsmitteln reduziert. Die Stereoselektivität der Reduktion ist hoch. Die Konfiguration der epimeren Alkohole wird 1H‐NMR‐spektroskopisch bestimmt.
