2-Chloropyridine-3,4-dicarbonitriles reacted with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol to give 2-hydrazinylpyridine- 3,4-dicarbonitriles. Condensation of the latter with salicylaldehyde and its substituted derivatives afforded the corresponding 2-2-[2-hydroxyphenylmethylidene]hydrazinyl}pyridine-3,4-dicarbonitriles.
