    Disclosed are a polyethylene terephthalate film having the sum of F-5 values in longitudinal and transverse directions of 3500 to 5000 kg/cm2, absolute shrinkages in lon- gltudinal and transverse directions at 100°C of up to 2.5% and an amorphous orientation factor of -1.5 to 0.5, a process for the production of the film and a magnetic recording medium having the film as a base. A polyethylene terephthalate film useful as a magnetic recording medium having super high-tensile strengths in both longitudinal and transverse directions and a low heat shrinkage is provided, while it has been considered that such properties could not be obtained in polyethylene terephthalate films.

    Biaxially oriented polyester film, which comprises a polymer blend of polyester (A) having repeating units of general formula (I) and a copolyester (B) having repeating units of the general formulae (I) and (II) and/or (III) and having a flow-initiating temperature of not higher than 350°C and an ability of forming melting anisotropy, with the reduced molar fraction of (II) and (III) based on the total polymer blend being 0.5 to 18 mol %. In formula (I), n represents 2, 4 or 6, R represents α, β and ψ (wherein X represents H or Cl, with at least one otthem being Cl). In formulae (II)and (III), R', R" and R111 each represents a group selected from among 1,3-phenylene, 1,4-phenylene, 2,6-naphthylene, 2,7-napthylene, 8, ε and γ. One crystal surface of polyester (A) is oriented with respect to the film surface with a surface orientation coefficient of 0.75 to 0.95 and a crystal size of 35 to 75 Å in the direction of the crystal surface.

    Disclosed is a flame-retardant liquid crystal polyester composition, which comprises (A) 100 wt. parts of a liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units of the following formulae (I), (II), (III) and (IV), in which the amount of units (I) and (II) is 77 to 95 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), the amount of units (III) is 23 to 5 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), and the units (I)/units (II) molar ratio is 75/25 - 95/5 and (B) 0.5 to 30 wt. parts of a polymeric flame retardant having an average dispersed particle diameter not larger than 2.5 µm: (̵O-R₁-O)̵      (II), (̵OCH₂CH₂-O)̵      (III), and (̵CO-R₂-CO)̵      (IV) wherein R₁ and R₂ are specific aromatic residues. This composition gives a molded article having a superior flame retardancy, heat resistance, mechanical properties, and appearance.

The polyester and copolymer of the present invention contain a saccharide residue which is hydrolyzed and/or assimilated specifically in the large intestine, drugs contained in solid oral pharmaceutical preparations coated with the coating material of the present invention are not decomposed or absorbed by digestive organs other than the large intestine, but instead are released selectively and therefore in a high concentration in the large intestine.
