coca plants resulted in the formation of radioactive cuscohygrine (specific inc. of 14 C: 0.25 %). The 13 CNMR spectrum of this alkaloid exhibited satellites at the signals due to C-2 and C-2′ arising from coupling of these carbons with the adjacent 15 N. The multiplicity of signals in the 13 C NMR spectrum of both natural and synthetic cuscohygrine indicated that the alkaloid is a mixture of its meso
