  Condensation of aldehydes, unsymmetrical disubstituted hydrazines and cyanide resulted in the formation of Mannich bases which, after acylation, formed 6-acylated 3-amino-5-imino oxazolines on acid/acid anhydride treatment. Structure 3 was assigned to these mesoionic compounds on spectral evidence.
