    Stereoregular polymers having a molecular weight distribution of less than 5.0 and an isotactic index in excess of 96 percent are produced by polymerizing an alpha-olefin having 3 to 8 carbon atoms in a low pressure gas phase fluid bed process at a temperature in excess of 80°C employing a heat stable catalyst system comprising (a) a solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halide and a polycarboxylic acid ester containing two coplanar ester groups attached to adjacent carbon atoms, as inside electron donor, (b) an organoaluminum cocatalyst, and (c) a silicon compound containing a silicon-oxygen-carbon linkage, as out­side electron donor.

    The invention provides a process for preparing a cycloolefin random copolymer comprising repeating units derived from (i) ethylene in an amount of 40 to 97% by mole, repeating units derived from (ii) a specified cycloolefin in an amount of 3 to 60% by mol and optionally repeating units derived from (iii) an α-olefin of 3 - 20 carbon atoms in an amount of 0 to 20% by mol, wherein (i) ethylene, (ii) the cycloolefin and optionally (iii) the α-olefin are copolymerized in a liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst formed from (A) a soluble vanadium compound having a tertiary alkoxy group or β-diketone as a ligand and (B) an organoaluminum compound represented by the formula (i-Bu)nAlCl3-n wherein n is 1.0 to 2.5.

    A cycloolefin copolymer composition comprising a hydrocarbon elastomer component which is substantially free from any polymerizable double bond and a random cycloolefin copolymer component prepared by the copolymerization of a C₂ or higher α-olefin with a cycloolefin in the presence of said elastomer component, wherein the content of the elastomer component is 1-50 wt. %. Another cycloolefin copolymer composition comprising a hydrocarbon elastomer component having polymerizable double bonds and a cycloolefin copolymer component prepared by the copolymerization of a C₂ or higher α-olefin with a cycloolefin in the presence of said elastomer component, wherein the content of the elastomer component is 1-50 wt. %. These compositions are excellent in transparency and mechanical strengths and particularly in impact resistance.

    There is provided a cycloolefin polymer composition comprising 8 to 40 % by weight of a cycloolefin polymer [A] and 92 to 60 % by weight of a cycloolefin polymer [B], both having specific properties, wherein a difference ΔnD = |nD(A) - nD(B)| between the refractive index nD(A) of the polymer [A] and the refractive index nD(B) of the polymer [B] is not more than 0.015. This composition is excellent in impact resistance, transparency and heat resistance, and has a good balance of these properties. There is also provided a cycloolefin copolymer composition comprising 8 to 40 % by weight of a cycloolefin elastomer component [Aa] of an α-olefin, a specific cycloolefin and a non-conjugated diene which contains a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond; and 92 to 60 % by weight of a cycloolefin copolymer component [Ba] which is obtainable by copolymerizing an α-olefin and a specific cycloolefin in the presence of the elastomer component [Aa]; wherein a difference ΔnD = |nD(A) - nD(B)| between the refractive index nD(Aa) of the component [Aa] and the refractive index nD(Ba) of the component [Ba] is not more than 0.015. This composition has excellent properties inherent in a cycloolefin random copolymer and is improved especially in impact resistance without tranding off its transparency. There is also provided a cycloolefin copolymer composition comprising 8 to 40 % by weight of a cycloolefin elastomer component [Aα] of an α-olefin and a specific cycloolefin which substantially contains no polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond; and 92 to 60 % by weight of a cycloolefin copolymer component [Bα] which is obtainable by copolymerizing an α-olefin and a specific cycloolefin in the presence of the elastomer component [Aα]; wherein a difference ΔnD = |nD(A) - nD(B)| between the refractive index nD(Aα) of the component [Aα] and the refractive index nD(Bα) of the component [Bα] is not more than 0.015. This composition has also excellent properties inherent in a cycloolefin random copolymer and is improved particularly in impact resistance without trading off its transparency.

    A polypropylene resin composition comprising (A) a crystalline propylene block copolymer having a content of a room temperature n-decane-soluble portion of 15 to 35% by weight and having MFR of 5 to 80 g/10min, in an amount of 94 to 55%, (B) an elastomeric polymer in an amount of 1 to 20% by weight and (C) an inorganic filler in an amount of 5 to 25% by weight, said composition having the property that a ratio of an Izod impact strength (J/m, IZ250-30) of a specimen obtained by maintaining the composition at 250°C for 30 minutes in a molten state in an injection molding machine and then molding the composition, said Izod impact strength being measured after 48 hours from the molding, to an Izod impact strength (J/m, IZ230-3) of a specimen obtained by maintaining the composition at 230°C for 3 minutes in a molten state in the same injection molding machine and then molding the composition by the same method, said Izod impact strength being measured after 48 hours from the molding, satisfies the following formula: 1.0≥(IZ250−30/IZ230−3)≥0.5.
