  The present invention relates to the field of non-specific anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In particular, the invention relates to bismuth(III) tris-carboxylate complexes having the formula [Bi(III)L 3 ] n including its pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates, wherein, L is chosen from the group comprising carboxylato-NSAIDs, their derivatives, prodrugs or metabolytes, and n is ≧1. The bismuth(III) tris-carboxylate complexes of the invention may be formulated for use in treatments for a wide range of ailments, particularly those where an anti-microbial activity is advantageous. In a particularly preferred embodiment the bismuth(III) tris-carboxylate complexes of the present invention exhibit activity against bacteria found in the gastrointestinal tract such as Helicobacter pylori, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus pumilus, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
