Four aliphatic dicarboxylic acids azelaic acid (H(2)AZA), pimelic acid (H(2)PIA), adipic acid (H(2)ADA) and muconic acid (H(2)MUA) have been selected as O-donor ligands to build Zn-II fluorescent coordination polymers in the presence of 1,4-bis[2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]-2,3,5,6-tetramethylbenzene. All these compounds were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses for these complexes reveal that they are formulated as [Zn(AZA)(1,4-bpetmb)(0.5)](n) (1), [Zn(PIA)(1,4-bpetmb)](n) (2), [Zn(H2O)(ADA)(1,4-bpetmb)](n) (3) and [Zn(MUA)(1,4-bpetmb)](n) (4). Complexes 1-3 are 2D (4, 4) nets with different types of secondary building blocks. Complex 4 exhibits a 3D sixfold interpenetrating diamondoid framework. Thermal stability and photoluminescent properties of 1-4 were also investigated. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
