n is 1, 2 or 3;
R1 is selected from C1-C5 alkyl, C1-C5 hydroxyalkyl, C1-C5 dihydroxyalkyl and —CHYCOOH wherein Y is selected from C1-C3;
R3 is hydrogen, hydroxy or C1-C3 alkoxy;
R4 is hydrogen, or C1-C3 alkyl;
R5 is selected from hydrogen, or C1-C3 alkyl;
or R4 and R5 form together a bivalent radical —CH2—;
that are able to impart, enhance or modify salt or umami taste.
