  Fluid, stable polymer-polyols are provided which consist of an organic polyol medium and an interpolymer of a minor amount of polymerized ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride, such as maleic acid anhydride, and a major amount of at least one different polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomer, the interpolymer being in the form of particles that are stably dispersed in the polyol. Polyurethane foams produced from these polymer/ polyols display improved load bearing and compression set when compared with polymer/polyols produced in a similar manner without the ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride: elastomers so produced have improved tensile modulus and tear properties.

  Novel polymer/polyisocyanate compositions made by polymerizing at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in situ in a blend of a first organic polyisocyanate and a stabilizer. The stabilizer comprises a polyoxyalkylene polyol having a number average molecular weight of at least 4000; an isocyanato terminated prepolymer formed by reacting the polyoxyalkylene polyol and a second organic polyisocyanate with the proviso that the isocyanato terminated prepolymer and the first organic polyisocyanate provide greater than 25 equivalents of isocyanato groups per equivalent of hydroxyl groups; a polymer/polyol formed using the polyoxyalkylene polyol; a polymer/prepolymer formed using the polyoxyalkylene polyol with the proviso indicated for the prepolymer above; or a modified polyol containing an ester group formed using the polyoxyalkylene polyol. The novel compositions provide highly stable dispersions of polymer particles in the first organic polyisocyanate and are highly useful in the production of polyurethane products.

  Adducts, improved polymer-polyols and improved polyurethane foams are provided. The adducts are produced by reacting suitable polyol and epoxy co-reactant to essentially eliminate all epoxy groups. The polymer-polyol is produced by polymerizing suitable ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the adduct or in the adduct forming mixture, in the later case the adduct forming reaction and the polymerization reaction occur simultaneously to produce the polymer-polyol. Polyurethane foams are produced by the usual method but employing the novel adduct or polymer-polyol of the present invention.
