O,O'-Ditolyldithiophosphates of lanthanum(III) corresponding to [[(o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O/C6H5CH2O)(2)PS2](3)La] have been synthesized by the reaction of lanthanum chloride, LaCl3, with sodium salt of O,O'-ditolyldithiophosphates (o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O/C6H5CH2O)(2)PS2Na, in 1:3 molar ratio under anhydrous conditions. The mixed ligand dithiophosphato complexes of the composition [[(o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O)(2)PS2](2)[(OCH2)C(CH3)(2)(CH2O)PS2]La] have also been isolated by the reaction of lanthanum chloride, sodium ditolylphosphorodithioates, (o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O)(2)PS2Na, and sodium neopentylenephosphorodithioate, (OCH2)C(CH3)(2)(CH2O)PS2Na, in 1:2:1 molar ratio under anhydrous conditions. These complexes have formed adducts with nitrogen and phosphorus donor molecules by straightforward reaction of these complexes with donor ligands, which have the composition of the type [[(o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O/C6H5CH2O)(2)PS2](3)La center dot nL] (L = C10H8N2, C12H8N2 for n = 1 and P(C6H5)(3), C5H5N for n = 2) and [[(o-, m-, p-CH3C6H4O)(2)PS2](2)[(OCH2)C(CH3)(2)(CH2O)PS2]La center dot 2P(C6H5)(3)]. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, mass, IR, and heteronuclear NMR (H-1, C-13, and P-31) spectroscopic studies. Coordination numbers of six and eight are suggested around the lanthanum atom in these complexes, leading to octahedral and dodecahedral geometries. These complexes were also tested in vitro to evaluate their activity against the fungus Fusarium oxysporum and bacteria Pseudomonas alkaligens and Bacillus subtilis..
