hydroacylation of α-substituted α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compoundsthrough direct hydrogen atom transfer in the presence of the photocatalyst anthraquinone and chiral N,N′-dioxide/metal complexes. This mild, robust method provided a facile access to a wide array of chiral ketones with α-tertiary stereocenters by using the readily available aldehyde as a hydroacylation reagent. The reactivity of aryl alkyl ketone with a preheated mixture of dibromomethane and diethylamine is poor and gives an alpha-methylenation product in very low yield even under refluxing condition. It can be accelerated dramatically by microwave irradiation. Under microwave condition, the cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyls, aryl alkyl ketones, heteroaryl alkyl ketones and acyclic benzyl ketone give alpha-methylenation products in modest to good yields. AbstractOxidizing gold? A gold(I)/gold(III) catalytic cycle is essential for the first oxidative cross‐coupling reaction in gold catalysis. By using Selectfluor for gold(I) oxidation, this chemistry reveals the synthetic potential of incorporating gold(I)/gold(III) catalytic cycles into contemporary gold chemistry and promises a new area of gold research by merging powerful gold catalysis and oxidative metal‐catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions.magnified image
