Grignardreagents react, in ether and at room temperature, with propargylic ethers, to give allenic hydrocarbons with reasonable yields. The reactions requires catalytic amounts of copper(I) bromide.

Direct proof for the rearrangement of the prop-2-ynyl-lithium (2) into the propadienyl-lithium (4) is provided by the formation of the 1,3-disubstituted alleniccompounds(7).
Substituted allenes are selectively obtained in good yields from the reaction of Grignard reagents with propargylic or allenic halides in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium chloride, triphenylphosphine and diisobutyl aluminumhydride, in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature.
Unsaturated chlorohydrins (1)(readily obtained fromcrotonaldehyde) are converted, by methylation and in situ lithiation at room temperature, into alka-2,3-dienes (2).
