Synthesis of 2,3-cis Stereomeric Emetamines via Reissert Compounds

Alkylation of Reissertcompounds with certain benzoquinolizinone derivatives followed by hydrolytic cleavage afforded the core of the title compounds in a two step sequence. Finally, the lactam intermediates were reduced with DIBAH giving the target compounds, the structural and stereochemical assignments of which were achieved by 13C NMR spectroscopy.
