The new compounds are very good mucolytics, hepta-protectors and antihypertensives.

    Metal working lubricating compositions useful as a precoating oil and as a coating and rolling operation, comprising mineral or synthetic oil and a sulfur containing carboxylic acid such as n-dodecylthioacetic acid and n-butylthioacetic acid. The composition also contains vegetable oil or animal fat. The lubricant composition provided is particularly useful in the cold rolling of steel and other metals.

    crystalline block copolymer containing at least a triblock chain represented by the formula A-B-C or containing at least a radial structure represented by the formula (D-EX in the polymer chain is provided. These triblock chains or radial structures comprise blocks of a homopolymer of a vinyl aromatic compound or a copolymer of a vinylaromatic compound with another vinylaromatic compound or a conjugated diene compound having a glass transition temperature of not lower that 50°C and a weight average molecular weight in the range of from 2,000 to 100,000 and blocks of a homopolymer of a conjugated diene compound or a copolymer of a conjugated diene compound with another conjugated diene compound or a copolymer of a conjugated diene compound having less that 20 wt.% of a vinyl aromatic compound having a glass transition temperature of not higher than 10°C and a crystallinity at 25°C and a 1,4-trans-linkage ratio in the conjugated diene portion of 80 % or higher. These crystalline block copolymers are produced by polymerization of the respective monomers in the presence of a composite catalyst comprising the catalyst components (a), (b) and (c), or (a), (b), (c) and (d), wherein (a) is an organic compound of barium or strontium; (b) is an organic compound of lithium; (c) is an organomagnesium compound; and (d) is an organoaluminum or organozinc compound. Further provided are shaped bodies obtainable by injection, extrusion or compression molding comprising such crystalline block copolymer.

    An improved process for the anionic polymerization of alpha-methylstyrene polymers employs an organolithium initiator and, as an initiator activator compound, a sodium-, potassium-, rubidium- or cesium­derivative of an oxygen-, sulfur- or nitrogen-­containing organic compound. The process permits the preparation of polymers such as copolymers of styrene and alpha-methylstyrene having high purity and reduced color.

    Pentaerythritol co-esters derived from pentaery­thritol, (3-alkyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-alkanoic acids or an analog thereof and alkylthioalkanoic acids or lower alkyl esters of such acids are useful as stabilizers of organic material normally susceptible to oxidative and/or thermal deterio­ration. The co-esters are advantageously prepared by transesterification of such esters with pentaerythritol. Preferred co-esters are (I) pentaerythritol tris[3-(3,5-­di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate]-mono[3-n-do­decylthiopropionate] and (II) pentaerythritol bis[3-­(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate]-bis[3-­n-dodecylthiopropionate). The co-esters are especially useful in stabilizing applications for which physical mixtures of (i) (3-alkyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)alkanoic acid esters of polyols with (ii) polyalkanol esters of alkylthioalkanoic acids have heretofore been proposed.
