Two new fluorescent squaramides bearing quinoline (L1) and naphthalene (L2) as fluorogenic fragments were synthesized and investigated as possible cellular imaging probes as free molecules and when loaded in monoolein-based cubosomes.

A family of acyclic squaramide receptors (L1–L5) have been synthesised with the aim to bind anions in a competitive solvent mixture and to evaluate how the presence of additional H-bond donor groups on the squaramide scaffold could affect the affinity towards anions and the transmembrane transport ability.

Solvent-Dependent Conformational Switching of N-Methyl-N,N′-diarylsquaramide
N′-Diarylsquaramide and N,N′-dialkylsquaramide are conformationally stable linkers with extended (trans, trans) and folded (cis, cis) structures, respectively, independently of external conditions.
