8‐dihydroguanosine (OG) and 2′,3′,5′‐tri‐O‐acetyl‐ribosyluric acid (RU) were studied for their ability to mediate the photochemical (λ > 300 nm) reversion of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers to their parent pyrimidines thymine and uracil. Thin films of uracil were prepared by vacuum evaporation. The stacking structure of the molecules in the films were investigated using a transmission electron microscope(TEM) and electron diffraction analysis. The films showed a substantially higher sensitivity for ultraviolet(UV) light irradiations.
